MS-DOS is 30 years old today | ExtremeTech

Starting MS-DOS...
Happy Birthday DOS! We've spent some wonderful times together.

I have a funny story relating to DOS. A customer brought me her computer and said it was broken. I opened up the "homemade" computer and checked all the parts. After verifying all components were operable, I plugged in the keyboard, mouse, and monitor and fired it up. Up comes my friendly C:\> prompt. The only problem she had was that DOS was it's operating system and not Windows and she had no idea how to use it.

Remember when our traditional TV channels went from analog to digital? Well one of the reasons was so the FCC could re-utilize those frequencies to create a new way to provide Internet access for those who could receive TV signals. It looks like they're one step closer. The IEEE (professional engineering organization) has approved a new wireless standard: 802.22TM-2011. Speeds will cap at 22 megabits per second at a distance of 100 kilometers. Xbox 360 might get Skype integration | Ubergizmo

One prediction I've made is coming closer to reality. Consoles are becoming more important in the personal lives of many families. They've transformed from one to four player in-house or local-connected consoles for gamers. Now they can chat with friends online, watch movies, buy MP3's, and be controlled via body movement. The latest addition to the XBox360 seems to be the integration with Skype. This is possible due the fact that Microsoft recently purchased Skype and is trying to make it a de facto video conferencing solution on many platforms. Skype will give video conference capabilities to the XBox360 but maybe another integration involving Voice over IP calling. Keep an eye on future integration plans for consoles, you're going to be surprised how connected they become.
